Real Madrid chose Tottenham’s Pochettino to replace Zidane
Real Madrid have chosen Mauricio Pochettino from Tottenham as the main candidate for the post of head coach after Zinedine Zidane suddenly decided to resign. Tottenham, however, are sure that Pochettino’s new contract does not contain a point that allows him to join the Champions League winner.
Zidane said that he was departing from the Santiago Bernabéu on Thursday, five days after Real Madrid won a third Champions League title in a row in Kiev. The Real president, Florentino Pérez was caught unawares and is now doing everything possible to lure the 46-year-old Pochettino.
Real know that Pochettino signed a five-year contract with the Spurs six days ago, but had assumed that it has an article that allows Pochettino to move away. Tottenham claim that this is not the case and have also denied the being of any oral deal between the former head coach of Espanyol and Southampton and the owner of Spurs, Daniel Levy, about the potential leaving for La Liga.
On Thursday, Zinedine Zidane said he will step down as manager of Real Madrid. The 2006 World Cup winner said at a press conference he believed it was the right moment to depart from the club without suffering a single defeat in the playoffs of the Champions League for three years.
