The 2018 World Cup has passed into history. Let’s see its main heroes one more time.
The Golden Ball – Luka Modric (Croatia)
Real Madrid star Luka Modric scored two goals in Croatia’s opening two matches against Nigeria and Argentina, and also made one assist. The brilliant midfielder guided his team to their first World Cup final ever, which they lost to the French national team with a score of 4-2.
Belgium midfielder Eden Hazard was the second-best player, with France striker Antoine Griezmann third.
The Young Player Award – Kylian Mbappe (France)
The 19-year-old PSG forward Mbappe secured his rising reputation as the world’s most talented player and rightly won this award. He scored the only goal in France’s 1-0 group victory versus Peru, netted twice in the 4-3 win over Argentina in the last 16 and grabbed France’s fourth goal in the final, becoming the first teenager to score in the World Cup final since Pele.
The Golden Glove Award – Thibaut Courtois
Chelsea goalkeeper Courtois helped Belgium finish third with a number of an outstanding saves in each game in the knockout round, including the wins over Japan and Brazil.
The Golden Boot – Harry Kane
England captain Harry Kane became the second Englishman in history to end as the top scorer in a World Cup after Gary Lineker scored six goals in 1986.
