Djokovic becomes first man to win all nine Masters titles

The 31-year-old Novak Djokovic finally won the the Cincinnati Masters final on Sunday, defeating Roger Federer 6-4, 6-4. This was the players’ first meeting in almost two years, and before that Federer seven times won here, never losing in the finals.

The Serbian became the first winner of the Career Golden Masters since the series started in 1990. It had become his personal challenge after he lost 3 title matches against Federer in Cincinnati on previous occasions.

Now Djokovic is leading 24-22 in personal meetings with Federer and also has an advantage in the decisive matches. He is 3-1 versus Federer in Grand Slam finals, including victories at Wimbledon and the US Open in 2015.

Thus, Djokovic completed an extended recovery from an elbow injury. He already won Wimbledon last month and is now one of the main contenders to take the upcoming US Open.
