The 2018 FIFA World Cup is gaining momentum. There were not any stunning sensations during the second round, though fans saw some notable moments. For example, the host – Russia – for the first time ever qualified for the last 16 of the World Cup, Argentina are facing the prospect of an early World Cup exit and another favorite – Germany managed to harness willpower to demonstrate the champion’s power.

Group A.

RussiaEgypt — 3-1

UruguaySaudi Arabia — 1-0

Russia’s fans are enjoying the World Cup party after their team secured participation in the playoff stage of the tournament for the first ever. The host side continue to show convincing football and in general managed to contain the main striking force of Egypt in the person of Mohamed Salah.

Group B.

PortugalMorocco — 1-0

IranSpain — 0-1

The expected victories of the two group’s favorites, who in the third round will determine who will be at the top. Iran also have chances for success, but their victory over Portugal looks difficult to achieve.

Group C.

DenmarkAustralia — 1-1

FrancePeru — 1-0

The French national team failed to impress at the current moment. Having the most expensive squad among all participants, Les Bleus have not showed the spectacular confident game yet, though they secured knockout-round progress.

Group D.

ArgentinaCroatia — 0-3

NigeriaIceland — 2-0

Croatia showed why they are World Cup dark horses, by defeating Argentina in brilliant style. Luka Modric, the Real Madrid star, scored his perfect goal, probably his best for the national team. If he and other Croatia’s stars continue to play the same way, they could become real contenders. It is understood that from the main star of world football – Lionel Messi – the fans obviously expected much more.

Argentina head into encounter with Nigeria, expecting to win to have any chance of progressing.

Group E.

BrazilCosta Rica — 2-0

SerbiaSwitzerland — 1-2

The Brazilian national team earned their first win of the World Cup, though their form was far from ideal, as well as the behavior of their leader – Neymar, who got the yellow after diving inside the penalty area. The Brazilians won and remained the bookmakers’ favourites to win the 2018 World Cup. They will secure a place in the last 16 with a point against Serbia.

Group F.

South KoreaMexico — 1-2

GermanySweden — 2-1

A brilliant curling Toni Kroos’s free-kick, which led to a 2-1 victory over Sweden, showed: there are no equal to Real Madrid’s players in terms of skill and ability to solve difficult moments in their favor on this tournament. The victory puts the Germans back on course to reach to the next stage.

Group G.

EnglandPanama — 6-1

Two obvious victories of favorites over the group’s outsiders. Belgium and England will compete for the first place, and we will have to wait for the playoffs to understand what these teams really are.
